The Lucerne Blue exterior of this Firebird is in excellent driver condition. As seen in the photos, the finish features a terrific gloss, deep shine, and a smooth finish. The chrome and other bright work on the car are in great condition with a brilliant finish and no pitting. The doors open and shut effortlessly, and unlike many Firebirds, the front end of this car shows no significant chips. The 18-inch US Mags wheels are in beautiful condition, with a flawless finish and no curb rash. These wheels, combined with the car being slightly lowered, give it a great stance and a unique look that sets it apart from other Firebirds and Trans Ams. The tires are sized 235/35R18 in the front and 285/35R18 in the rear, with about 90% tread left.
While the exterior is stunning, there are some minor imperfections to note: a small crack in the left sail panel, faint bubbles around the rear taillights, and a few other tiny blemishes that were too small to capture in photos. However, from about five or ten feet away, these imperfections are virtually unnoticeable. The underside of the car is exceptionally clean, and we’ve included photos of areas prone to rust such as the rear spring mounts, rockers, and lower quarter panels to show how well-maintained the car is.
All of the glass on this Firebird is date-coded and original, with each piece predating the car’s body build date of 01E, which is the fifth week of January, 1971. The presence of original glass indicates that the car has had no major accident history or sustained significant damage.
The blue interior in this Firebird is in amazing condition. The gauge faces are crisp and clean with crystal clear lenses. The carpet is in great condition, showing no stains, rips, or holes, including the often-neglected rear carpet. The headliner is in excellent shape, with no sagging, warping, or tears. The woodgrain accents look great with no peeling or delamination. The seats are in fantastic condition, with no split seams, rips, or excessive wear. The driver’s seat bolster shows only slight wear, which is typical for a car of this age, but nothing too noticeable.
The original dash is in good condition, with no cracks, fading, or sun damage. The door panels are in excellent shape overall, and the door pulls are solid and intact. This Firebird has never been smoked in, with no burn marks or lingering cigarette smell. The overall condition of the interior speaks volumes about the care and attention this car has received over the years.
This Pontiac Firebird Esprit is in good mechanical condition, and we’ve driven it over 100 miles without any issues. The original 350-2 engine starts right up every time and runs smoothly. The car performs exceptionally well on the road, handling highway speeds with ease. There are no vibrations, strange noises, or issues, and the car performs well overall.
The brakes are responsive and do not pull to one side. The transmission shifts through the power band smoothly, and there’s no blue smoke when starting or driving. The car runs cool and does not overheat, and it has a healthy exhaust note that adds to the driving experience. The engine compartment is beautifully clean and well-detailed, as seen in the photos.
The horn, exterior lights, interior lights, radio, indicators, dash lights, and wipers are all in perfect working condition. Even the key buzzer still functions. The blower for the heater and A/C works on all speeds, and the A/C blows cold, having been properly converted to R134. The A/C compressor engages properly. The headlights, brights, and turn signals operate smoothly, and the car has a true dual exhaust with no catalytic converter, giving it a nice, deep exhaust tone.
This 1971 Pontiac Firebird Esprit is a true classic that stands out from other Firebirds and Trans Ams.
